Despite its relatively small size, Newcastle is never short on things to do. Over the coming months we’re looking forward to a whole host of events, festivals, and gigs; all designed to liven up your summer and make the most of the brilliant weather.

This is Tomorrow Festival – Fri 24 – Sun 26 May

Taking place over the upcoming bank holiday weekend, This is Tomorrow Festival promises to be an unmissable few days of musical brilliance, with headliners like Foals, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, and Stereophonics appearing among many more.

The Spice Girls are back! Yes, we know this event is technically in Sunderland, but what’s a trip across the water if it’s to see the group’s first performance since the 2012 Olympics?

Though Victoria Beckham will not be taking part due to other commitments, Mel C, Emma Bunton, Mel B, and Geri Halliwell will be taking to the stage at the Stadium of Light this summer for what promises to be a fantastic night of throwback hits. Northumberland Plate Day + Madness – Sat 29 June

Ready for something a little bit special? Northumberland Plate Day is the biggest horse racing event of the year, taking place at Newcastle Racecourse on Saturday 29 June. Whether you’re a regular racegoer, or just looking for an opportunity to dress up and enjoy a glass of champagne or two, this promises to be a fantastic day out.

SunnyCon Anime Expo returns to St James Park for another weekend of panels, talks, anime, Japanese culture, guests, and of course… cosplay.

Waistland Festival – Fri 12th July – Sun 14th July

Wasteland is a series of live music events taking place on Newcastle’s historic Quayside. The events will pay homage to the history of their former industrial surroundings through the mediums of music and art, making Wasteland a unique and immersive cultural experience.

Pride – 19 – 21 July

The Northern Pride Festival is back. Taking place at the Town Moor and across Exhibition Park, this is an annual opportunity to celebrate LGBT+ culture and strength in the face of decades of oppression. Plus, it’s a great day out.

This year, the Festival will include a Stonewall Remembrance March, taking place in memory of the Stonewall Riots, which birthed the concept of Pride as a protest. Entry to the festival itself is free, but you can find out more about the musical line-up and other events on their website.


Ladies Day – Sat 27th July

This year marks the 3rd instalment of the already infamous THAI KWONDO. This August Bank Holiday weekend 10 vendors will go head to head celebrating Thai street food, flavours, and re-imagined specials. As always each vendor will provide a £3 option with the aim being to try as many dishes as possible. The venue? Wylam Brewery from outside to inside. Entry is free, the food is fast but spectacular, and the vibes are beyond positive.
