Despite its relatively small size, Newcastle is never short on things to do. Over the coming months we’re looking forward to a whole host of events, festivals, and gigs; all designed to liven up your summer and make the most of the brilliant weather.
Here are our top picks!
This is Tomorrow Festival – Fri 24 – Sun 26 May
Taking place over the upcoming bank holiday weekend, This is Tomorrow Festival promises to be an unmissable few days of musical brilliance, with headliners like Foals, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, and Stereophonics appearing among many more.
Tickets are still available, with a 3-day pass starting at £137.50. Not bad for a full-scale festival! Head on over to the This is Tomorrow to pick yours up ahead of the weekend.
Newcastle Careers Fair – Fri 24 May
Uni career fairs not cutting it? Don’t be scared to venture out on your own. The Newcastle Careers fair is a fantastic opportunity to meet a variety of employers face-to-face, and quickly, too. Don’t be intimidated… print out a few dozen copies of your CV and register to go. You could very well find your next role there!
The Spice Girls – Thu 6 June
The Spice Girls are back! Yes, we know this event is technically in Sunderland, but what’s a trip across the water if it’s to see the group’s first performance since the 2012 Olympics?
Though Victoria Beckham will not be taking part due to other commitments, Mel C, Emma Bunton, Mel B, and Geri Halliwell will be taking to the stage at the Stadium of Light this summer for what promises to be a fantastic night of throwback hits. Head over to the Ticketmaster site to pick up your tickets today!
Bohemian Rhapsody Outdoor Cinema Experience at Newcastle Racecourse – Fri 7 Jun – Sat 8 Jun
If you, like us, were spellbound by Rami Malek’s incredible performance as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody last October, then we highly recommend you snap up tickets to this outdoor cinema experience.
Hosted at Newcastle Racecourse, the film will be shown on a huge screen and accompanied by food, snacks, and a bar. Bring a camping chair, or a blanket – whichever is more comfortable. Snap up tickets to this and enjoy a unique evening with your fellow Queen lovers.
RUSH – Sub Focus & MC ID, Jamie Duggan, K Motionz & More – 6 June
RUSH parties are some of the best in Newcastle, and if you’ve ever been to Digital whilst one is on, you’ll know how busy they can get. They regularly host top bassline headliners, and this final part of the uni year is no different – you can look forward to a night of beefy tunes from SUB FOCUS & ID, followed closely by Jamie Duggan, K Motionz, and NECTAX.
Grab your tickets for a night that’s sure to close off the uni year in classic bassline style… if by style, we mean skanking in Digi at 3am wearing a bucket hat. Tickets available here!
Northumberland Plate Day + Madness – Sat 29 June
Ready for something a little bit special? Northumberland Plate Day is the biggest horse racing event of the year, taking place at Newcastle Racecourse on Saturday 29 June. Whether you’re a regular racegoer, or just looking for an opportunity to dress up and enjoy a glass of champagne or two, this promises to be a fantastic day out.
Plus, there’s a special post-race performance from iconic British Ska Band, Madness. They might not be your cup of tea, but you could always bring your dad along. Just wait ’til they start playing ‘Baggy Trousers’!
SunnyCon Anime Expo – Fri 28 Jun – Sun 30 Jun
SunnyCon Anime Expo returns to St James Park for another weekend of panels, talks, anime, Japanese culture, guests, and of course… cosplay.

This year, the Festival will include a Stonewall Remembrance March, taking place in memory of the Stonewall Riots, which birthed the concept of Pride as a protest. Entry to the festival itself is free, but you can find out more about the musical line-up and other events on their website.
Ladies Day – Sat 27th July
